Olivier (Simon Haycock) takes his boyfriend James (Hugo Bolton) on a romantic break to his house in the South of France. Whilst is France they bump into Caroline (Elly Condron), an old friend of James’ who has been dumped by her boyfriend. The couple agree to let Caroline join them for their vacation but Olivier is less than happy at having a third person around for the duration. As the days go by Olivier and Caroline clash but soon they realise their dislike of each other may actually be covering up something more surprising.

Wasp is the feature-length debut of Swiss writer/director Philippe Audi-Dor. The film features only three actors and takes place in and around a beautiful house in Gordes, Provence. One of the first things you notice is that Wasp is incredibly understated and that’s definitely one of its strengths. Audi-Dor doesn’t feel the need to make his characters veer off onto monologues to move the plot along and often the silences in the film speak volumes about the characters.

The central plot focuses on the arrival of Caroline into the midst of Olivier and James’ romantic break. Early on in the movie Caroline questions whether either men have been with a woman before and Olivier confesses he has but not since he came out. It’s established early on that the strong-willed Caroline is happy to push whatever buttons she needs to in order to get a reaction and despite an initial dislike between her and Olivier, the two characters start to be drawn to one another.

It’s at this point that the film gets really interesting. We’ve seen countless films exploring closeted characters that are attracted to the same sex but we’ve never seen a film before where a man who identifies as gay begins to question if he is indeed gay or possibly bisexual. The way the story unfolds is really intriguing and we commend Audi-Dor for doing something different and unexpected. The tension that builds between Olivier and Caroline does so expertly and at a believable pace.

We really don’t want to give too much else away about the plot but all we’ll say is that there are plenty of surprising twists and turns as you head to Wasp’s climax. Audi-Dor has assembled a stellar cast for the movie with all of the leads equal to one another in terms of their performance. Simon Haycock does a great job of conveying Olivier’s conflict through his emotive performance and he has superb chemistry with both Hugo Bolton and Elly Condron. Bolton makes what could have been a fairly flighty role rather meaty and Condron has great fun playing the devilishly manipulative Caroline. The trio works really well together and they really excel in the scenes where the tension threatens to boil over.

Audi-Dor, who wrote the movie and directed it, also deserves special comment for what he’s achieved. The film doesn’t feel low budget and the cinematography captures the stunning location really well. It’s not easy to make a film with only three actors compelling and whilst this could work well as a play, Audi-Dor’s direction makes it an intriguing character study and he gets superb performances from his actors.

Wasp isn’t due to be released until Spring 2015 and we think you should be making a note in your diary to see it now. With strong central performances, an interesting and original premise, and stunning direction it’s a film that took us by complete surprise. We’ll be keeping an eye on Audi-Dor to see what he does next and we’ll also be closely watching the careers of Simon Haycock, Hugo Bolton and Elly Condron.

Capitalising on the “Gran Derby” in April 2019, Uber launched a communications campaign revolving around a short film directed by the renowned, award-winning Spanish filmmaker, Fernando Colomo. It tells the story of Romeo and Julio, a gay couple from Seville who decide to get married in spite of opposition from their respective families.
At first, the story plays on the prejudices of the viewer, suggesting that the conflict lies in the couple’s homosexuality, when the real problem ends up being the fact that the two families support rival teams.
The campaign tackles a taboo subject in the world of football, that of homosexuality, and promotes a plural and inclusive approach over and above any kind of rivalry or sentiment.

Film about the struggle of self-imposed exile; how the pleasures of anonymity and freedom contrast with the pain of loneliness and loss that shapes immigrant experience.

NADIE NOS MIRA is a film about the struggle of self-imposed exile; how the pleasures of anonymity and freedom contrast with the pain of loneliness and loss that shapes the immigrant experience. Nico, mid 30’s, is a young Argentine actor fighting to build a career in the US, without assistance or connections. Nico has left a promising acting career in Argentina, after a tumultuous break-up with his mentor/producer. He lands in New York, lured into believing that his talent will help him find success “on his own” and prove his self-worth. But that’s not what he finds. Too blonde to play latino, his accent too strong to play anything else, Nico gets stuck between identities: that of the successful South American actor, and temporary immigrant needing to juggle odd jobs, in search of the ever-elusive acting part that will provide an adjustment of status. When Andrea, his beautiful Argentinean ex-roommate and confidante, asks him to take care of her baby Theo; Nico becomes his male nanny (“manny”) and doesn’t suspect how deeply this new bond will affect him.

NOBODY’S WATCHING examines an immigrant experience that doesn’t often land on the screen; the bittersweet struggle of choosing to make a new land your own, and the realization that actual success lies in the journey of self- discovery and the unexpected gains that “failure” can provide.

Michael is faced with a dilemma, when a night of drinking with friends, turns into a sensual exploration of sexual identity.

After a long time abroad, a young man returns home and reunites with friends. A sensual game amongst them forces him to confront deep conflicts within himself that lead to a powerful awakening.

We’re in a hip apartment in Montreal, on a hot summer night. A group of friends gather around a table, and play a sensual game involving chocolate and French kissing. We learn that Edward and Michael are long time friends, but Michael has a chip on his shoulder. When it’s Michael’s turn to sample the chocolate game, his girlfriend Teegan dares Alex, Edward’s lover, to kiss Michael. Michael realizes that his sexual uncertainty may now be more than just a passing phase. As the night goes on, after many drinks and some weed, laughter, bonding, and dancing, the dawn slowly approaches, and Michael and Edward reminisce on their lives. Michael reveals what’s troubling him, and confesses he felt something when Alex kissed him. Unbeknownst to them, Alex heard their conversation, and enables a threesome, that ends up with the whole gang together. What will the morning after hold?

Recovering from an ill-fated affair with a married man, Gabe finds solace in the relationship he maintains with his ex-wife and daughter. On the other side of town, Ernesto evades life at home with his current live-in ex-boyfriend by spending much of his spare time visiting a different, comatose, ex-boyfriend, who was in a recent accident. Impervious to the monotony of their blue-collar world, they maintain an unwavering yearning for romance. The emotional isolation the two men have grown accustomed to is captured in a subtle, optimistic, poetic fashion while avoiding melodrama. The film premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and was also screened at several other film festivals in the US and Canada, including a variety of both traditional and LGBT themed fests.

This film is an excellent example of great storytelling. It’s a simple film that relies on subtly to tell a deeply human tale, instead of gratuitous sex, massive explosions or over the top violence. In short, if you enjoy films that explore real life, then this film is for you.

Pit Stop succeeds in delivering a very authentic depiction of a part of American life that doesn’t get a lot of unbiased coverage. Another aspect of this film which is refreshing when compared with other LGBT films is that it has what I would consider to be an overall positive message. That does not mean it is devoid of angst and conflict; however, this film does a better than average job of balancing the very real challenges many gay men face with a thread of hope and an emphasis on personal fulfillment.

Speaking as a straight woman, I also found this film to be one which has value that extends beyond the LGBT community. Put another way, it really is a film for everyone. It does not depict gay people as living in a bubble, nor does it use straight people as mere props. The straight characters have depth and are portrayed sympathetically, which are things I find many LGBT themed films lack. I highly recommend Pit Stop to anyone who enjoys movies about everyday people and think it would be an especially worthwhile gay movie to watch for anyone with a gay family member or friend.

When lesbian detective Abigail Marks teams up with gay guy Michael Dalmar to solve the disappearance of his twin, Kyle Dalmar, a famed portrait photographer, their investigation leads them into the Kyle’s risqué world. With Michael posing as Kyle, the pair uncover assistants who have designs on their bosses, clients who have an interest in detectives, and killers who want them stopped. Navigating between identity and duplicity, Abigail and Michael discover that photos never lie, and two minutes can mean the difference between life and death.

2 Minutes Later “2 Minutes Later” is a crime-fighting/comedy film with some flesh and sex (not excessive, but certainly more than necessary). It tried to equal the sex & violence quotient seen in similar ‘straight’ films. This film’s director, who was present the night I attended, got on stage before the film screened, and said that his film was meant just as fun entertainment; nothing more, nothing less. — and to the person who accompanied me to this screening, that’s what it was. To me it was just a gay reworking of many straight suspense films, with a major plot element (spoiler) borrowed from “Blow-Up.” It had a fair amount of tepid comedy added into the mix, justifying the director’s statement that it could be called ‘light entertainment.’

Probably to the chagrin of the filmmaker present (and to the management of the fabulous Tampa Theatre, a splendidly renovated ‘atmostpheric,’ built in 1926) the film was shown through the wrong lens. What I mean is, it appears to have been a film that may have been produced with an aspect ratio of 1:1.85, but it was shown thru’ a 1:1.33 lens. Everyone was just a bit too thin, too tall, –and all the cars were a foot, or so, more compact. I tried to ignore this technical 2 Minutes Laterproblem (which wasn’t easy) and see the film the way it’s producer intended me to. It had it’s fun moments, some suspense, and I almost enjoyed it, until “The End” credit came on-screen with a question mark (?) added after a few seconds, a la “The Blob.”

The leading lady, who was also present in the theater that night –and accompanied the filmmaker on stage before the curtain went up, was the best actor in this film. As improbable as her character was, her lines were better than those of the leading man, –who was likely chosen for his shy boy-next-door ‘look’ rather than for any acting ability. I’m not knocking him, nor the filmmaker, nor anyone else associated with this production. It was obvious that the budget wasn’t big, but neither was the thought put into this. Better films have been made on smaller budgets.

And it seemed to me that it borrowed an awful lot of bits and pieces from many other films, –besides the obvious big ‘bit’ borrowed from “Blow-Up.”

Overall, a mediocre effort. I rated it 5.

Ryan is a dancer who just can’t seem to get laid. When his best friend Dustin tries to intervene, everything gets tipped on it’s head and what Ryan was really looking for all along was right in front of him.

The 2009 award winning short from OutliciousTV and Brian Pelletier. A fun, campy gay sex comedy that’s just a tad raunchy. Ryan (Jeremy Lucas) has been going through sort of a “dry spell” in the love and sex department. His friend Dustin (Mark Strano) tries to come to the rescue and set Ryan up on a blind date (Conor Lane). Ryan is a about to give up all hope on dating and just focus on getting laid when he realizes the one thing he’s looking for is right under his nose.
This is OutliciousTV’s most popular short film. Originally premiered as Everybody Is Having Sex… But Ryan.
Premiered at the Out on Film festival in Atlanta as well as the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and Indianapolis Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

Set in Sydney, Australia. A (heterosexual) father and his gay son are trying to find Ms/Mr Right respectively. The film shows their relationships with one another and the objects of their affection as tradgedy strikes. There is no overt ‘message’ in the film, just a very natural, entertaining story-telling.

Gay film The Sum of Us Good movie. You’ll feel all good and hoping the world could be like the movie, with fathers getting along with their gay sons. Here, Russell Crowe, yes him, plays a big gay. Jack Thompson plays his father. They have an awesome relationship. Jack is extremely supportive and accepts Crowe’s homosexuality like I’ve never seen in a father-son relationship before.

There are constant reminders that the father is super supportive. He pushes for safe sex. He keeps hoping Russell will find Mr. Right. He tells Russell how lucky he is to have him for a son, it goes on and on. Seriously, see the movie with someone you like because you’ll want to kiss someone.

Gay film The Sum of UsTo top it all off, Russell’s grandmother was a lesbian and she is remembered fondly, and Russell plays footy. He’s just a nice and ordinary guy. You will also get to see various types of gays in the movie. Queens, older gays, butch gays (like Crowe) etc. It’s great when movies reflect the wide range of gays available.

Forget that you hate Russell. If you see this movie you might actually like him. The movie was shot in 1994, he was 30 then.

There was some homophobia elsewhere in the movie but not inside Crowe’s house, and the homophobia was portrayed as something bad. After the jump there is a little discussion on the mentioned homophobia (which will sort of give away part of the plot).

In the late 1970s, when a mentally handicapped teenager is abandoned, a gay couple takes him in and becomes the family he’s never had. But once the unconventional living arrangement is discovered by authorities, the men must fight a biased legal system to adopt the child they have come to love as their own.

Life consists of many segments, each of which in turn accounts for a piece of other pictures. They are optimistic pictures with light of hope, of expected solution and final satisfaction. However, they are also darker images when one goes astray in the situations that are beyond imaginations and belief. The most important point lies in: every picture contains in itself a certain meaning. Good or bad frames do not affect the meaningful contents when one knows where and how to look. Beauty is in the eye of the viewer, and the beauty of this film fills the audiences with hope and prejudice, with trust and betrayal, with short-term happiness and long-lasting endurance in bitterly and the rapidly changing life cycle.

Any Day Now gay filmRudy is a man who performs nightly at a gay bar. He comes across his neighbor, a lady with sign of drug abuse. She has a son named Marco. “Marco was a sweet kid and smart and funny. He had a smile that could light up the room. He loved junk food. Chocolate doughnuts were his drug of choice”. He is just innocent and childlike beautiful like others. Unluckily and ultimately sad, he has a Down syndrome. When his mother left him unexpectedly, the life of Rudy and Marco intervenes with each other.

Any Day Now gay filmPaul is an excellent lawyer. He has divorced his wife because he realized that something is different. He understands what he really wants, and the moment he meets Rudy proves the immortally legendary tale “Love at the first sight”. Together they go on a journey of protecting and fighting for Marco as well as for themselves so that Marco will have a safe and good environment for upbringing. Together they surpassed things and succeeded, to a certain extent.
Any Day NowOn that journey, audiences witness many segments of life in which there are supports, there are oppositions. What does not kill us makes us stronger. What always stands by them make them strongest, and that is their love, their will, and their hope. Sometimes, it is false hope and is proven by the evily opposite sides, but the film does give us a far more valuable message: Mistake is born every day. We hardly notice it until time tells us. That moment is when we are struck by the consequences of our own neglect.

Any Day Now gay film
Being gay is difficult enough. Being a child with a disease is not at all easy. If, for one moment, we rethink of what we have all thought, is the problem created by the way we define things? The film marvelous demystified it. Gay or straight, handicapped or normal kid, they are all humans. Between humans, there are indestructibly equal rights, which are seemingly forgotten and deliberately neglected by a considerable number of people. Any Day NowImagine you are gay, or your child has the Down syndrome, you will not simply suicide or throw your child away, will you? If you really might, what is the reason? And no matter what the reason is, life is not born to be killed like that because the meaning of life is limitless beyond human recognition and knowledge. If we have the opportunities to live a normal life, we should help others because if everyone thinks in such way, there will be time when we receive help from others.
Unfortunately, as stated above, “Mistake is born every day. We hardly notice it until time tells us. That moment is when we are struck by the consequences of our own neglect.”

A closeted male travels and hires male prostitutes while away. Upon arrival, the hustler is nervous, uncomfortable and takes Valium to cope. Host suddenly gets a call and must leave. Gives the hustler money and tells him to stay. After leaving, the adjoining room door opens, his son walks in. The prostitute and son identify a commonality…the cycle finally ends.

Mark, a 25-year-old male prostitute who suffers from anxiety attacks accidentally runs into the 10-year-old son of one of his clients. When the boy tells him he is looking for his father Mark, taken by surprise, wants nothing to do with him. But while they wait for the client to return Mark realizes that maybe this unexpected guest was exactly what he needed. Over the course of the night this strange new friendship grows and gives both Mark and Justin the courage to overcome their fears and face their own personal demons.

The filming and camera angles were mesmerizing and made this short film that bit more fascinating. The story is one that holds many morals and shows a choice someone can make. In this it regards a male prostitute turning down work because he knows there’s a child near by.
It’s a truly touching bit of film, and all the actors are perfect and have utter conviction, although the child in my mind should have been younger with his script seemingly immature. Yet this works, it brings it a brutal honesty.
The Boy Next Door is compelling from the start, and all the action is filmed mainly in one room, and this brings to it a sense of the claustrophobia all the characters must be feeling about different aspects of their life.
It was truly very enjoyable, and well worth watching.

A lonely, middle-aged man hires a male prostitute to recreate a road trip from his past.

Jonathan is a man in his late forties whose emotional center has been entirely decimated by his previous partner, and this film begins as he hires a male prostitute to accompany him on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. His hope is to recreate a moment he shared with his ex, down to every last precisely staged polaroid. A shaky premise to be sure, but disbelief is quickly suspended in the capable hands of the two lead actors. Played quietly by Tuc Watkins, Jonathan wears his pain in his eyes and in the occasional quiet outburst. Brandon, 25 years his junior, shares a similar depth of spirit, his will toughened by just trying to survive. With these two richly complex characters, Nick Corporon gives us a searingly raw account of two men finding each other amidst the land mines of their own heart break. With gorgeous hand-held camera work that is at turns intimate and grandiose, this film takes us deep inside the damaged hearts of two individuals and leaves us believing again in the healing power of human connection. Not without its problems, but an absolute must see.

—————–

A handsome middle-aged businessman patrols the streets of San Francisco looking for the perfect rent boy. Jonathan isn’t looking for the hottest or sexiest guy, rather he’s got a very specific type in mind. Back in his hotel room, he dresses them in a brown wig and douses them in a particular cologne. Exacting and ill-tempered, he auditions one and then another until he finds the perfect fit. Once he’s found what he’s looking for, he offers the chosen hustler a handsome salary to accompany him on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. No questions, no back-story; just dress and act as instructed and collect your cash.

In the tradition of so many great American road trip films, our mismatched duo hits the road. They stay at cheap motels, drink at local dives, and pose for pictures at roadside landmarks. But even as they begin to bond with each other and enjoy the company of a colorful couple traveling the same route, a pervasive sense of mystery continues to cast a shadow over the trip. Each time one of the many questions that surround Jonathan and his travel companion is answered, it only seems to open new and deeper questions.

Retake is a road trip film unlike any that you’ve seen before. The two central characters are damaged and imperfect, but sympathetic, earnest, and steeped in raw emotion. Intriguing and provocative, this film will take you on a journey that rivals the one on the screen.

Danny, dying of Aids, returns home for his last months. Always close to his mother, they share moments of openness that tend to shut out Danny’s father and his sister.

In the Gloaming is a American made-for-television gay drama film. Story written by Alice Elliott Dark. Directed by Christopher Reeve, stars Glenn Close, Bridget Fonda, Whoopi Goldberg and Robert Sean Leonard.
It’s a story about 33 year old Danny, dying of AIDS and back to his home for his last months with his mother and sister.
There are many scenes between the mother and son when thoughts about their respective lives are exchanged. It is as if they are getting to know each other for the first time. The dialogue in the film is mainly between mother and son. All the other characters while still important have much less to say.
