Boyfriend (2017)

Director: Kyle Krieger
Writers: Kyle Krieger
Genre: Short Movie
Country:  USA
Language: English
Duration: 6 min
Year: 2017

Stars: Indar Smith, Jake Wilson

Boyfriend, which was created by Kyle as his entry to film school, explores a dating scenario that’ll be all too familiar to some people – realising you’re the third person in a relationship.

“When single, I have often encountered partners or friends or people who I was interested in who led me on and entertained my company without disclosing their honest intentions right away. Sometimes they would be in relationships and kept it hidden for a while until they couldn’t any more. I was always so disappointed and sad when I would find out. A part of me understands why they would do that. I too have been in a relationship and was attracted at the newness and flirtation of a new acquaintance. Especially if my relationship was in a downturn or going through a rough patch. This film is just a glimpse into those emotions and that process,” he said.

Shower, directed by Henry K. Norvalls, depicts two men showering as they battle against their same-sex attraction for one another.
The film has been released to considerable critical acclaim – named the top short film of the week by a specialist site.

The Norwegian film shows one man in the shower when he overhears another person using the showers and heads off to investigate.
When he discovers the other man seemingly pleasuring himself – though this isn’t completely illustrated – he acts horrified.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asks.
“You can’t do that in here!”

Shower (2012)

“You can watch if you want,” the man replies, with an offer which proves too tempting to resist.
The brief film follows as the men battle their internal desires – the man pleasuring himself encouraging the other to join in.
Eventually he caves in, walking closer to his new-found shower friend.
As he finally caves into his desires, the pair embrace for an intimate moment.

But the intimacy doesn’t last long – with a horrifying twist.
Written and directed by Henry K. Norvalls and starring Svend Erichsen and Per Magnus Barlaug, the film is being touted as one of the most powerful new LGBT short films, highlighting the horrors which continue due to repressed sexuality.

A man waits for the results of a rapid HIV test in a small-town strip mall.

Director’s StaTement

This is a film about getting tested for HIV in 2017 — two decades after President Clinton announced that finding an effective vaccine would be a top national priority. Five years after the FDA approved PrEP for reducing the risk of sexually acquired infection. One year after my first Grindr hookup.

This is a film about queer rituals. This is a film about grappling with gay shame. And this is a film about a man who is terrified of winding up alone, but on some level thinks he deserves to be.

I feel very lucky (and terrified) to have so many of my own demons on display in this work – it has been more personal, therapeutic and creatively fulfilling than I could have ever imagined. I’ll always be grateful to my remarkable cast and crew, who stomped into Scranton, PA with me the week after the election, when the world suddenly felt so unfamiliar, and carved out a space for this fierce little film.  ~Matthew Puccini
