Afuera (2016) short film by Steven Liang
The story of a Latina struggling to thrive at the intersection of her transgender and immigrant identities, this short narrative film debuted at the Los Angeles Film Festival and screened throughout the US. A short film that packs a punch, Afuera follows a day in the life of Jennifer (newcomer Jennifer London), who finds herself caught between her need to be herself and an ultimatum from her boyfriend Pedro (Santiago Malkuth). Afuera features all trans actresses playing the roles of trans women; a rarity in far too many LGBTQ films.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I made AFUERA to explore the intersection between the immigrant and transgender experiences, and the resilience of this community. As a gay man of color from a working-class, immigrant family, I understand deeply the complexity of identity, and I want to explore these characters in a way that is authentic and universal. My goal is to discover and empower new transgender talent of color, as well as illuminate their specific plight. Caitlyn Jenner, Laverne Cox, and Jill Soloway were instrumental in bringing transgender narratives into the mainstream. However, the stories of undocumented transgender women are virtually invisible. AFUERA helps raise awareness, while at the same time, humanizes the undocumented-trans experience. -Steven Liang

#NoHomo (2015) webseries by Nelson Moses Lassiter
Can it work for straight men to pretend to be gay in order to try and pick up women? The more devious straight guy finds logic in this and does not think about the problems. This is what “#NoHomo” is all about. It is a Youtube Original Comedic Series about two straight men that pose as gay men to trick girls into sex, but when their plan fails, they go to the ghost of Liberace to unlock their inner gay.

The show, created by Nelson Moses Lassiter, follows Tyler and Skyler – played by very handsome models, Christian Plauche and Matthew Egan – who find themselves challenging their concepts of human sexuality more than they expected. ~ Amos Lassen

Beefcake (1999)
Beefcake (1999) is a docudrama homage to the muscle magazines of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s—in particular, Physique Pictorial magazine, published quarterly by Bob Mizer of the Athletic Model Guild. It was inspired by a picture book by F. Valentine Hooven III (published by Taschen) and was directed by Thom Fitzgerald.
The film stars Daniel MacIvor, Carroll Godsman, Jack Griffin Mazieka, Jonathan Torrens, and Joshua Peace in pastiche recreations of life at the Athletic Model Guild, mixed with interviews with models and photographers whose work actually appeared in the early magazines, including Jack LaLanne and Joe Dallesandro. The film was shot in Nova Scotia.
Beefcake was a follow up to The Hanging Garden, also produced by Thom Fitzgerald.
Beefcake premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 1999 and was released by Strand Releasing in the United States; it was nominated for three Genie Awards.
